Upgrade The Bypass

A Long Shot I Know!

This is a short one, but one which I feel (A) is strongly felt as one of the biggest transport problems in Worcester but (B) is not likely to change as a result of lack of money. So support the improving tourism campaign (Worcester on the Map) and maybe we might be able to afford it one day!

The Problem

There are actually several problems all of which manifest themselves as huge traffic deadlocks across the city and beyond.

Problem 1: The Bypass cannot support the weight of traffic

Problem 2: There are not enough bridges across the Severn

Problem 3: Now that the amount of traffic traveling through the city is different to when the one way system is devised, surely this needs rethinking

The Solutions

Solution to Problem 1: Two fold, the bypass absolutely has to be a dual carriageway, surely this is a grandma and eggs statement!? One shorter term and cheaper option would surely be to upgrade the junctions on the bypass the roundabouts as they stand are too small or not well enough controlled (i.e. by traffic signals etc.).

Solution to Problem 2:Build a new bridge in town... please! We so badly need this, we live in a town of 95,000+ residents and we only have one bridge over the river in the centre if town for traffic. When it floods badly, the Carrington bridge on the bypass often serves as the only crossing for 30 miles!

Solution to Problem 3: By fixing problems 1 and 2, some of this goes away. But a short term fix might be to revisit some of the one way routes and the timings on traffic lights, especially at the bottom of London Road, City Walls Road and the bottom of New Road.

See, easy but undoubtedly expensive. Register your support for this and at least we can tell the politicians we care!
