Worcester Cathedral

The Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary

(See below for the cathedral layout and links for more detail on the right). Also take a look in the gallery for a selection of Worcester Cathedral pictures.

Whether religious or not, Worcester Cathedral holds a special place in the hearts of all who live in Worcester and subsequently anyone who visits. It is easily one of the most photographed buildings in the area. Only the majestic Malvern Hills rival this title for much of the West Midlands. The jewel in Worcester's crown was a favourite concert venue of Edward Elgar and King John is buried within the building walls.

Not only is Worcester Cathedral one of the greatest and most important pieces of architecture in the United Kingdom, its religious impact has been especially important throughout the years. Worcester boasted one of the largest cities in Britain many hundreds of years ago and was the Christian capital for the Mercia region, the Cathedral has been part of that.

Today, Worcester Cathedral is undergoing change and is being treated to £millions of restoration to keep this national treasure in peak condition for the cameras and most importantly for the city which uses the building for much more than just a church!
