Older than you think...
Before I started work on this website,
I was of the belief that Worcester was no older than the
Roman settlements which now lay beneath much of the city.
However, upon researching it didn't take long to realise
that Worcester as a settlement, stretches back many years
before the Romans even set a foot on ancient Briton's shores,
in fact evidence seems to suggest that there has been a
regular settlement on this site since the Mesolithic, Neolithic
and Bronze ages. (This would therefore mean that a settlement
has been on the site where Worcester now stands for 8-9000
years (around 6-7000B.C), this also means that there have
been people here in Worcester pretty much since the British
Isles were first inhabited! I think that's pretty impressive.
Some might even argue that some of these original inhabitants
are still here in the city...
In this section I want to talk a little bit
about Worcester's incredible history and in some more detail,
some of the more turbulent chapters...
