Shopping in Worcester

Shop 'til you drop!...

The centre of Worcester is an exceptionally fine place to shop, it has seen a great change over the last 20 years since pedestrianisation. On a sunny summer Saturday, street entertainers add to the atmosphere. At christmas time the famous Victorian market takes over for a few days, selling crafts and peculiarities for the festive season.

But whatever time of the year you come to Worcester you will enjoy the shopping. The key is to find the little shops off the High Street as there are some really unique gems to be found (e.g. Reindeer Court, New Street, Friar Street). When all that is done, stop for a coffee in one of Worcester's delightful cafes from the ultra modern Art House to the rustic Café Rouge of Friar Street. Or ultimately, buy a pastie from the fabulous Pastie Shop on St Swithin's Street!

Worcester's main shopping area is on the High Street, which stretches from the Cathedral down to the railway station (Foregate Street). This is where most of the major department stores are located. Worcester has all of the usual department stores, clothes outlets etc. as one would expect to find. There are two streets that run parallel to the high street, the first is The Shambles, again there are a number of major outlets here, but you will also find Pratley's a 19th Century shop selling china, the place hasn't changed much over the years and at the back of the shop you will find all sorts of unusual crafts and antiques. The Reindeer Court shopping centre is here with many small family run shops and cafes, a great place to sit and relax.

The third parallel street is new street, which runs into friar street, this is where you will find some fantastic little shops, there is a great little pen shop, some highly fashionable interior design shops and some great restaurants and cafes.

Off the High Street, you will also find the Crowngate shopping centre, with a mixture of major chains and small family run businesses. Exiting from here onto broad street, you will find Angel Place where a small but perfectly formed market is present. (There is an indoor market off the Shambles). Up near the Cathedral is the Cathedral plaza shopping centre with new shops and a distinctly modern feel.

Worcester has all of the usual retail parks, the two main ones being Blackpole, Shrub Hill and Hilton Road.
